The "D" within the picture isn't for Downtown, but we will always pretend it's! Personally, I used to stick at the Las Vegas Strip after I could get a room on the Stardust or Circus Circus as a child for 29-bucks. At that price, and with 2-buck sandwiches or hamburgers, I had quite a few money to blow at poker. After I got adequate at poker to sustain my vacation/living expenses I rented a bungalow on the Dunes for $400 a month (yeah, I DO KNOW they imploded the Dunes in '93, so that you can tell I HAVE BEEN at this casino gambling thing for quite a while!), but that meant I needed to discover a lot of inexpensive meals, like 99-cent breakfasts, 99-cent shrimp cocktails, and 99-cent Alka-Seltzer tablets.
For a while, the Dunes had a superior poker room, but I gravitated to Downtown Las Vegas because I liked the Golden Nugget, and all-around the valuables I DISCOVERED good, cheap eats, just like the shrimp or crab cocktails on the Four Queens and the Golden Gate. I also ate a ton (yes, 2000 pounds) of Pastrami and Corned Beef sandwiches on the Horseshoe for $2.95 each. At the moment I still just like the Nugget, but I tend toward vegetarian fare, or I persist with sushi, and the Nugget keeps seeking to reinvent itself, as do a little of the clubs just like the D within the Downtown corridor. That's a fair thing. The rooms are cheaper than at the strip, you'll be able to park and reach a dozen clubs on foot, and whilst you want a break from the gaming, just walk outside to the Fremont Experience and revel in the show!
I've also noticed that the clubs Downtown love to give new table games a try, and it was on the D that I caught a brand new game last month, and this month the Golden Nugget has Big Raise Stud Poker. It is a pretty easy game, so much like Let-it-Ride, and for those who just play the usual bet and make your 1x or 4x raise on the correct time, the home edge is an affordable 2.78 percent. That's pretty good for a carnival game. Test it out in the event you get a chance.
