An Arizona woman has won a $775,000 judgment against Harrah's for an incident involving a speed bump the entire long ago in 2007.

Alice Swanson of Yuma, Arizona were an ordinary patron of Harrah's casino in Laughlin for two decades when the nasty run-in with a speed bump occured within the parking zone during considered one of her casino trips.

The problem? Swanson claims the velocity bump was too high, causing her to trip and fall and injure her shoulder. The case went before a jury which ultimately agreed with her, deciding that not just was the rate bump too high but that Harrah's did not exercise reasonable care. The jury awarded Swanson $375,000 for past pain and suffering in addition to $400,000 for future pain and suffering.

The case eventually made its strategy to the Nevada Supreme Court, with Harrah's appealing the unique jury award. Harrah's claimed that the jury verdict need to be overturned because there has been no evidence to justify the award and that the decision was in keeping with mistake, passion, or prejudice.

The Supreme Court made their decision last week, upholding the verdict by the jury and the judgment in Swanson's favor. Their final summary: "The facts presented don't clearly show error or manifest injustice, which might require reversal of the verdict."

Don't feel too badly for Harrah's however, as business to their Nevada casinos has picked up significantly in 2013 with total gambling revenues and profits nearing highs not seen since before the recession began within the U.S. and across the world.
